Thomas Kurtz enjoys a multifaceted career as an educator, researcher, performing artist, arts administrator, and musicians' health specialist. As an educator and mentor, he fosters an atmosphere where his students know they are receiving equitable opportunities, giving them the means to reach their full potential, both in academia and in their professional lives.

As a musicians' health specialist, Thomas has created the “Musician’s Health Series,” to promote the well-being of musicians – physically, mentally, and emotionally; he interviews various health professionals, gathering information for musician-specific health concerns. Thomas aims to break the stigma surrounding musician’s health by creating a space where people can talk openly about injury prevention, practice strategies, performing, and how our craft relates to identity. Most recently, Thomas is pursuing his Alexander Technique certification in Austin, Texas.

As a performing artist, Thomas has garnered awards in various competitions, including Delta Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, "Golden Classical Music" International Competition and the MTNA Young Artist Competition. His primary teachers include Stephen Page, Geoffrey Deibel, Zachary Shemon, and Stacy Wilson. Currently, he is earning his DMA in Saxophone Performance at the University of Texas at Austin, while serving as Adjunct Saxophone Professor at The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
